Welcome to CRBC

It’s a great pleasure to be able to extend a very warm welcome to you.

Cottingham Road Baptist Church is a lively, friendly congregation that is blessed to be drawn from all walks of life, all ages and multi-national. We share one common bond, the fact that we believe that God came into the world He created in Jesus, who lived, died and rose again in order that we may know forgiveness, new life and the power for really living. We believe that the Christian message is Good News for everyone, and together we’re discovering more about the difference Jesus makes in the world and within our community and lives.

We are fortunate to have our own building on the junction of Cottingham Road and Chanterlands Avenue, Hull. From here we host our Sunday services, a music group, Crèche, children’s and youth work, as well as many other midweek activities and opportunities for fellowship. We also meet in homes to study the Bible and to care for and inspire one another to live for Christ.

We know how hard that first visit to a new place can be, even for the seasoned Christian looking for somewhere new to worship, but our prayer is that you will find us open and accepting, no matter who you are or where you have come from.

Whether as a believer yourself or as someone just looking or wanting to know more, please feel free to come as you are, to be yourself and enjoy the company of fellow travellers on the road with Jesus Christ (the only one who is perfect and has it all sorted out!).

We look forward to welcoming you in person in the name of Jesus Christ, our Saviour, hope and life.

Is Church For Me?

There are many reasons why people think that church is not for them, such as, it'll be boring, I won't understand anything, I'm not good enough, I'm not sure if I believe, I don't like Cliff Richard, for example. But it is our hope and prayer that you'll find us welcoming, accepting and joyful! For we believe that everyone is made in the image of God and that He desires to know and be known by everyone.
Come join us and find for yourself the wonderful blessing of God's presence.
We pray that this short 2min video will be an encouragement for you.

The Faith We profess

"Christ has died, Christ is risen, Christ will come again! Dying you destroyed our death, rising you restored our life. Lord Jesus, come in glory."

  • ONE GOD - We believe in the supremacy of one Holy, sovereign God; revealed to all humanity as Father, Son & Holy Spirit.
  • AUTHORITY OF JESUS CHRIST - We believe in the supreme Lordship of Jesus Christ, the divine inspiration of the Bible and the personal return of Jesus Christ coming with authority over all.
  • HOLY SPIRIT - We believe in the transforming work of the Holy Spirit of God in the lives of believers; gifting, empowering and equipping us all for service in Christ's name.
  • HOPE FOR HUMANITY - We believe that no one is perfect, yet all are loved by God and that He desires the very best for us all. The life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ means anyone who calls on His name can know the forgiveness of God, fulfil their potential, and enjoy eternal life.
  • BELIEVERS' BAPTISM - We believe that Believers’ Baptism is a symbol of Jesus’ claim on our lives, proclaiming that we have died to self and live for Christ. It is a blessing that comes from being obedient to Christ's command.
  • THE CHURCH - We believe in a believers’ church which understands itself as a community of the faithful gathered in the name of Jesus Christ, for worship, witness, fellowship and service; to continue Christ's ministry in the world.
Worship

Sunday Worship

Every Sunday, and at other times in the year, the fellowship gathers to celebrate the joy of knowing God and being known by Him; worshipping Him as Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Our worship style is a blend of contemporary and traditional, but our desire is whole-hearted Spirit filled praise to God the Father through Christ our Lord. Come as you are and let God draw near to you.

Prayer

Prayer & Fellowship

As well as on a Sunday, CRBC recognises and celebrates the fact that the church is the fellowship of disciples and we love to get together. Prayer forms a integral part of the churches life, whether on a Sunday, in small groups or privately in our homes and is seen as the solid foundation of our life together in God. In addition, throughout the year we will periodically gather on a Saturday evening to share a meal and pray for a specific issue or organisation the church supports.

Connect Groups

Connect Groups

Members of the church regularly meet together through the week in small groups to uphold and encourage one another, reflect on God's word and praise Christ our saviour. So whether in someones home or in the church building, come and join us as we explore our faith together and grow as His disciples.
Groups exist for all ages and backgrounds.

Children & Youth

Children & Youth

We just love children playing a full part in the fellowship and desire to see them grow, explore and discover the delight of Christ's love for them. Every Sunday there is age appropriate activities for them as well as holiday clubs and a group called TOG.COM for the youth of the church. Child protection is taken very seriously and we have active policies in place and all our key volunteers are trained to a nationally recognised standard (BUGB - Safe To Grow).

But why Baptist? And who are they?

Baptist churches are part of the mainstream protestant church movement and we believe in One God, revealed to us as Father, Son and Holy Spirit. However, our unique characteristic is born of a belief in five principles in which this faith is expressed.

  • From the beginning Baptists have believed that the church should be completely independent from secular power and thus able to be an authentic prophetic voice for Christ. Baptists have campaigned for everyone to have complete freedom of conscience and have gone to prison (and worse) for it. The only recognised authority for the church is the Bible and it is up to each fellowship to discern the will of God for them and are therefore solely accountable to God for who they are and what they do.
  • We believe in Believers' Baptism. In keeping with freedom of conscience, faith must be real to the person and therefore it must be they who desire to be baptised. We take seriously the command of God, which states in the Bible that, we should believe and be baptised; no-one can do it for you.
  • We delight in recognising and celebrating Communion, the Lord's Supper, the Eucharist. As it powerfully reminds us of all that Christ did on the cross, of our constant need of each other and the truth that Jesus Christ will return to gather his church and bring sin and all it's consequences to an end.
  • We believe in the gathered community of believers. The full expression of faith can only be found when we live out that faith as part of a local fellowship being accountable to one another and to Christ who is Lord over His church; for Faith is no abstract ideal but a lived reality.
  • We are not isolationist, but recognise and actively embrace Christ's wider church. We do this by associating with other Baptist Churches, principally under the umbrella of the Baptist Union of Great Britain, and through ecumenical relationships with other churches.
