Ecclesiastes
Zoom group

Over the next few weeks this hour long zoom group will be using material from the London Institute for Contemporary Christianity (LICC) looking at life on the frontline - how to be good witnesses in our day-to-day lives.

Living for God

But what are Connect Groups?

The names we call groups have a direct effect upon how they are understood and operate. Therefore, “Home Groups” have a tendency to emphasise the location and therefore be focused upon the group, “Bible Study“ groups have theological investigation as their primary purpose, “Cell“ Groups have numerical growth as theirs and “Fellowship Groups“, pastoral care. Whilst none of the above is wrong, they can be self-limiting and so CRBC has gone back to the example of Jesus to find a more holistic approach.

When Jesus was asked, “what is the greatest commandment?“ he summed it up thus: ‘”Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.” This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: “Love your neighbour as yourself.” All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”’ Matthew 22:37-40. In addition he went on to add another command, saying “A new command I give you: love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.“ John 13:34-35

Using the above as a template, CRBC has remodelled all its “Home Groups” to become “Connect Groups,” a name which places the emphasis away from where they gather and upon a threefold desire to "connect" with God, with each other and with those outside the group. The emphasis is now placed upon the outcome of the gathering, rather than what is done within it; it's about encouraging change in our relationships and faith.

  • LOVING GOD - Everything the Connect Group is about is rooted in our relationship with God and aims to deepen our love of God and to be a place where we can draw nearer to Him. To engage with God's Word and apply it to our lives today. To help our spirituality to grow and to develop the worship we bring so that it is evermore heartfelt and unhindered by social expectations (2 Samuel 6:21), A place where we’re encouraged to see our whole-life as an offering of worship, praise and thanksgiving,
  • LOVING ONE ANOTHER - Connect Groups are a place where we seek to love one another more in line with Christ’s love for us. A place where we give each other permission to challenge and uphold one another in our faith and commitment to Jesus. Where we’re interested in the joys, stresses and challenges of each others lives and can be really open and honest with each other, concerned for each others needs, and be prepared to be an answer for them. Where we desire to spur one another on to love and good deeds.
  • LOVING NEIGHBOUR - Connect groups are a place where we’re challenged to see beyond ourselves and look to our neighbours. We recognise that our gathering is not solely for our own benefit, but to allow His glory to be seen in all that we are and do, for then Habakkuk’s prophecy will be a step closer (Habakkuk 2:14).

Thus, Connect Groups are a place to strengthen our love of God, care for one another and for our neighbours. That the very core of their DNA is the beating heart of God and His desire for us as individuals, as the gathered Church and to change the communities in which we live.

May everyone know that we are Christ's disciples...
