What's Happening

Welcome

by Jim Keane | 0

Welcome to the online home of Cottingham Road Baptist Church. On these pages you will find out a little bit about who we are, what we believe and what we do, you can even listen to the Sunday sermons.

We are a church a of about a hundred imperfect people attempting to live lives that honour God and trying to support and encourage each other through the stuff of life. We exist to help people to become followers of Jesus Christ therefore we put the preaching and teaching of the Bible, prayer and worship at the very heart of what we do. Jesus says that we should love God and love our neighbour and this we try to do, have a look around to see how we put that into operation.

However there is nothing like visiting us on a Sunday to really get a feel of what the church is like. So if you are looking for a church home or wanting to find out more about this person called Jesus we invite you to come to Cottingham Road Baptist and find out more.

We look forward to seeing you soon.

Lent Ideas

by revjev | Comments Off

We enter the season of Lent tomorrow: Ash Wednesday. Traditionally a time for self examination before the Lord. It is a good opportunity to stop and think about who we are before God. There are a few ways that we might be able to do this together and on our own this lent;

1. Lent Lunch Prayers:  Each Wednesday 12.30-1.30pm : This can be done by coming to church for all or part of the time and praying. It can be entered into where you are by stopping for a few minute and praying. At church we start with the Midday Prayer of the Northumbria Community found here

2. Lent Evening Prayer event: Friday 26th February 7pm-11pm: This is designed for all to be able to come and join in at some point in the evening. There will be opportunity to be quiet, pray the scriptures, pray extempore, using liturgy, each hour will be different and have a different focus. The final hour tends to be the quiet hour and end with Compline

3. Use the Jesus Prayer: An ancient practice of praying Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, Have Mercy on me a Sinner. Pray it as you walk to the shops, or round the supermarket. Pray it as you prepare a cup of tea or the evening meal. The idea is you slowly repeat it to yourself as you go about your daily activity. It is a way of helping you focus on God.

4. Pray the Lords Prayer: Use lent as an opportunity to pray the Lord’s prayer each day.
