Welcome to all Visitors

Who are we?
Cottingham Road Baptist Church, affectionately called cott road, consists of a wide range of different people, from all ages and different backgrounds. Whoever you are you are assured a very warm welcome at cott road.

When to arrive:
If it’s your first visit then it’s probably best to turn up around 10.20am. If you are driving then you’ll be pleased to hear that there is plenty of free parking in the church car park or around the church. You can get to us on the bus. We are also only a stones throw from the university. For directions to reach us please see the map on the side bar. You’ll be greeted on the door by our welcoming team who will show you where to sit, where the loo’s are, explain about children’s activities if appropriate and answer any questions you might have.

What to wear:
This is easy. Wear whatever you feel comfortable in. We are an informal church and accept people as they are. There is no need to dress up to try and be someone that you’re not. Because we are a mixed age range some come in their “Sunday best” others come in their jeans or the latest fashion.

What to expect:
For some people going anywhere for the first time can be a bit of a nerve-racking experience. To help avoid any worries here’s a quick summary of what you can expect at cott road. We start our gathering at 10.30am with a few minutes of notices keeping us informed of diary dates etc, then we spend about 30 minutes worshipping together as a family. This time consists of modern and traditional songs played on a variety of instruments, readings from the bible and prayers. Any words that you need are usually projected onto a screen at the front. We will sometimes have an activity for the younger folk, before they go to their own activities at about 11am. At this point we usually pray together often led by a member of the church from the front and then we then have a talk from the bible that is relevant and meaningful to our modern lives. We finish our meeting around 11.45am, with tea and coffee. Our aim is that whether you are just looking into Christianity for the first time or have been a Christian for many years that you should be encouraged and inspired by the morning. We hope that everyone will draw closer to God.

What we believe:
We are a Christian church and believe that all can have relationship with God. We believe this relationship with God is possible because of Jesus (God’s only son) who invites us to follow him. If you want to know more about what we believe then do visit our what we believe page which is based on the Baptist Union’s declarations of principle. If you want to know more about Christianity why not visit the re:jesus website by clicking here

Is it just Sundays?
Absolutely not! God is with us all week long and we aim to lead lives pleasing to him. We’re not perfect and we do make mistakes, but we desire to make a positive difference in everything we do. To further encourage us we have midweek small groups (a small group is a meeting of about 10 people in someone’s house or at church). Small groups are a great way to get to know others in the church and to be real with each other about everyday living. If you are just looking into Christianity you are welcome to come along to a small group.

Accessibility:
We aim to be an all-inclusive church. We have access for wheelchairs and an adapted toilet. We also have a loop system for those who need it. If you have a visual impairment and large print songs/prayers/bible readings would be helpful then do let us know so that we can provide them.
